Anyway, if this is still an issue,
sudo apt-get purge nvidia-common
sudo apt-get install nvidia-common
should solve the problem

Rafael,
Thank you for helping make Ubuntu better.
Please can you tell us if this is still an issue for you?
If so, please can you attach your Dkpg log? It should be placed on
/var/log.
I'm going to mark this issue as 'Invalid' to keep track on it. Please
feel free to return it to 'New' if this
status confirmed, Won't fix !?!?
Can someone please investigate this issue further. Whether it is a
Totem bug, Gnome bug, Gstreamer bug, we still need to know so that it
can be pushed upstream. There is no indication at gnome bugs on the
link at the top of the page or here, where the issue lies!

Ado is right that this is not a Firefox issue, but it still does not
affect all applications. KDE applications do not manifest this problem
(I am running Kubuntu), nor OpenOffice, but GIMP does. In my case the
3rd level choosers are left win and right alt (shift right alt as
multi).

I fixed my blank screen problem by downgrading a couple of packages. I
removed the xserver-xorg-video-ati and xserver-xorg-video-radeon package
that came with Ubuntu 9.10 and then I replaced them with packages from a
jaunty repository.

Uhm, no, I did not disable anything in Empathy. I removed the indicator-
applet, that worked out much better for me.
I don't know, for me, this is still a bug. How was I supposed to know
this? Why, in the first place, would the indicator-applet be spawning
anything? Why isn't the choice of an IM c
