With FF 3.0.x it typically freezes at the first attempt (with the nice

This is definitely not a fix, it's just a work-around for a particular
situation. AJP13 must be enabled in most servers as Apache is used in
front of Tomcat. This bug makes tomcat6 unusable on production servers

gnome. in fact booting into recovery and then resume normal booting also
stopped working. however, i was able to complete boot by alt-ctrl-f1
(try to watch where it crashed), and then it did not crash at all and
booted into gdm

The bug is for mesa, not for fglrx, I dont want use propietary drivers
(they dont support my model in karmic with the actual 1.6 Xserver
version).
The mesa 7.5 version fails with this error:

Karmic Alpha 3: no/slow boot on Dell Studio 1535. Of the 5 boots (both
Ubuntu and Kubuntu), only one resulten in a graphical session (after
waiting for 15 minutes), the other boots, after the initial ubuntu
