I am also affected by this bug and I have found a simple workaround that
“fixes“ the bug until you close the buddy list:
on any workspace having at least one window open (excluding the buddy list),
try to swap pidgin's taskbar icon with another one by drag-and-drop.
Then the bugging taskbar
Should be fixed in jaunty and karmic (with the new mixer that uses
gstreamer).

findutils version is 4.4.2-1. I don't actually have /etc/cron.daily/find

A related problem is that the padsp command does not work.
If you run 'padsp firefox-3.5' firefox never starts (the command hangs).
But this is a generic bug with padsp - it hangs no matter what program

Nice to hear that you haven't forgotten about the issue. This issue was
resolved with ubuntu 8.10+. However since 8.04 is a LTS it might be of
interest for people running it. I therefore did a 8.04 installation on a
clean harddrive. Same problem still exist.

The problem with padsp _is_ firefox specific. And actually it is only
firefox 3.5 that have this bug. If you start firefox 3.0 with padsp it
starts just fine, and the sound output from flash goes through
pulseaudio.

I had the same issue, Its resolved by choosing a 2.6.28 kernel from the grub
menu. The rpoblem was with 2.6.31, havnt tried 2.6.30.
Same result with bluez 4.45 from ubuntu, and 4.46 from bluez git. (havnt
patched kernel or anything silly like that yet, maybee try that if not much
movement here)
