My system has a root filesystem in an LVM logical volume, backed up by
two MD RAID-1 arrays. It fails to boot propertly after upgrading to
kubuntu gutsy gibbon prerelease (latest packages as of today). In order

I have this problem in fully updated Feisty (30.9.2007). Two users
logged in and when plugging in an USB stick or a CD it seems that it
mounts randomly as one of the users OR then the first user always gets
the device (haven't tested for sure). Still it seems quite clear that
ONLY the "active user"

When I upgraded to gutsy I no longer had working nvidia drivers
installed. So upon reboot X server starts with the "Display settings
dialog" using lowest possible resolution. So far so good, but when I
tried choosing nvidia driver from the list and clicked ok X server

I notice the same problem with Kubuntu 7.04 (using
libfreetype6/libcairo2/libxft2 packages) and OpenOffice 2.2: the fonts in
almost all applications look perfect to me. However, in OOo, the font smoothing
is of substantially lower quality. I can confirm that there is some font
smoothing in OOo
Please read the link you gave carefully, icons for .desktop files should be
48x48 and for Debian menu 32x32.
Since the original is 32x32 though and there is no better leave it as is.
I would however crop the color palette to 3 (4 inc. background) colors only.

The 100.14.19 driver is crap. Use 9639 instead. I got a GF 7300 card and

More information about freezing: there are 2 different types of messages
in syslog:
1. kernel: [ 856.828000] ipw2100: Fatal interrupt. Scheduling firmware restart.
2. kernel: [ 8556.332000] NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth1: transmit timed out
The first one is well known and I thought that it is inevitable.

I just tried a "sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg" and it reworks.
It puts a driver "ati" in the device section of my xorg.conf in place of the
"radeon". If I put "radeon" again, it continues to work but I lost 500FPS in
glxgears.
