The problem was actually a combination of buggy 2.6.20 kernel + mobile
GPUs do not play well with framebuffer drivers such as "nv", yet also
"vesa" failed. I installed nVidia's driver (as I do in Slackware as
well) and all is well. Custom 2.6.21 kernel + nVidia.

It seems I'm suffering from a different incarnation of the same bug:
After cloning my Feisty (sdb1) install to another partition (sda7) on the same
machine i ran reiserfstune -u `uuidgen` /dev/sda7 to give the clone a different
UUID. This was successful
When trying to edit the fstab of the clone
I can't still reproduce it. It has been a long time since I didn't test
it (I use beryl most of the time), so perhaps there was an upgrade since
then...

I think it's not really useful to solve the problem but I tried to use
Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon Tribe 1 cd under VMWare. The live cd starts
flawlessly... maybe it's really a kernel problem? Gutsy has the new
kernel 2.6.22-6.13 (2.6.22-rc3-based)...

When you use shutil.copyfileobj in python in ubuntu gutsy, it will fail
and return an error.
Here is the script I used:

Hi,
I have the same card. Nothing seems to work.
I cant find that file Alvin was talking about:
var/lib/alsa/asound.state
so I cant delete it and try
I am really willing to try help solve this problem, there are quite a few
people with this problem.
