Same problem on my machine. When I try to type the password at the first
login the input box gets filled with asterisks. The only way to fix it
is to switch to tty1 and restart kdm. The same machine has no problems
with dapper.

drivers/char/drm/i915_dma.c in i915_emit_cmds() and validate_cmd(). It's

It works for many people, so you need to provide much more information.
/var/log/syslog (or /var/log/installer/syslog if you've managed to boot
into the new system) would be a good start.

I tried it under xfce with metacity replacing xfwm4 -- everything works
fine, so I guess it's xfwm4 indeed.
I also tried the --compositor=off option. This makes the delay much
smaller, and almost ignorable -- but it's still there it seems (this was
tested on edgy, with the new xfwm4).

Don't know if you want more reports, but here's one. For me, it works
smoothly until I try to do any GLX operations -- in the attached dmesg
is the result of running glxinfo.
