I investigated this problem closer today and I'm pretty convinced that
the root is the libgl1-mesa-dri package from the repository at
http://www.beerorkid.com/compiz/.
Removing that package fixed the upgrade for me (the package has e.g. the
problem that the version is bigger than the versionnumber

Here is a dmesg from the machine.
As you can see from the last 5-6 lines the network cable is unplugged to
get it too boot, and then plugged back in where it functions again. This
may be coincidence.

The original bug here (python-apt fails to install) is already fixed.
To get the fix you have to run apt-get update somehow and get a new
python-minimal and python-central (that will fix the python-apt issue).
If I understand your report correctly you are unable to do this

Change the resolution (1024*768) in the /etc/usplash.conf and add
vga=792 in /boot/grub/menu.lst don't solve the problem. I have a black
screen with only informations about mounted partitions, and the
resolution 1024*768 correct.
What can we do for providing more informations to find the bug ?

I had the same problem in dapper. I describe it again to clarify and be sure i
am in the subject.
With my xfce session is open, i select reboot or shutdown.
Then, I observe a switch to VT, where i can see shutdown messages, and then
switch to usplash for the last steps.

My intention was to solve this upstream by making the control center
module only apply its settings to apps inside KDE. It would do this by
writing a script into ~/.kde/env to set the GTK2_RC_FILES (I think)
environment variable. This script would only get run on KDE startup -
letting you choose

It is i386, with dapper packages (The version of OO is 2.0.2). My home
directory is mounted on NFS, and that is where I am trying to save. I
can replicate the bug on other systems which are using my NFS mounted
home directory, but I cannot when saving locally to any machine. I have
just discovered

I will reject this report for now because I strongly suspect the
unofficial openoffice.org pacakges cause the problems. Feel free to
reopen if there is still a problem after removing those.

I can confirm this bug with gaim 1:1.5.0+1.5.1cvs20051015-1ubuntu10 on Dapper.
Using 1:2.0.0+beta3.1-1ubuntu6 and Edgy no problems at all, as stated in gaim
bug report here attached too.

It makes sense since pstscript files are text files.
If you disable the ps preview but don't disable text preview, konqueror will
preview the files as text files.
I don't see anything going wrong there.

I remember looking at this a while back. It's a HAL issue. My guess is
it's a race condition where HAL does its wifi-detection magic before the
driver has initalized properly and hence assumes it's wired. I'm
working on fixing it.
