Not just the startup-sound.
XMMS, amaroK and so on, have the same problem.
It seems that each somg is plit into hundreds of pieces.
Rather than playing them in rapid succession, every 1/10 of a second is played
5-6 times, before moving on to another. It's not really echoing. It's
stuttering.

Also I discovered this problem. A workaround to solve it is to create
the symbolic link kdevelop to the kdevelop3 folder under
/usr/share/apps/
On my opinion it's a mistake in the compiling and/or configuration
process

I think that we already have good default values since I am not aware of
any complains. Changing these settings is perhaps mainly done by small
group of power users. So I don't think that the benefits of an option

Ok. The BogoMIPS output I am quoting is the sum of the separate readings
of the various CPUs.
CPU1 is always fine, at 3994.7ish CPU0 varies wildly and this is why:

I am opening this again, as it still occurs with the latest kernel. It
seems to occur if and only if "Serial (ATA) mode" is set to "AHCI" in
the bios. If I set it to "Compatibility," everything works fine, which
is why I initially thought that this bug was fixed.

Since 3994.70 seems to be the average BogoMIPS count when detected
properly I just forced the kernel to that by giving lpj=7989400 on the
commandline.
Fixes the problem -- but a real fix would be nice.

One minor update after reading the initial report:
The LCD light gets turned on but the screen stays black and it doesn't
reach the point with the vertical brown lines that occur right before it
enters X. Also, the hibernate light on the laptop is turned off at this
point.

Jonathan wrote the kmilo-thinkpad plugin a while back. The idea in the
future would be make KDE use the same infrastructure as GNOME and leave
the thinkpad /dev/nvram key proxying to the lower-levels.
As noted by Timo above, this is started as root and therefore has (read)
access to /dev/nvram, n

I installed Breezy on another partition. Breezy didn't has this problem
so firefox that came by default with Breezy installation CD worked fine
with Urdu fonts. but Epiphany which I downloaded and installed showed
the same symptoms that we are seeing in Dapper.
