seems to have fixed it for me.
with the interesting side effect of giving me a debian menu with
launchers for several programs the run in terminals as well as several
that I didn't realize were installed.

I think I had the same problem. I was doing a fresh install on a
PowerBook G4 15" Titanium. I have a external drive (a 320 GB OWC
Neptune) originally with 4 partitions. During the install I deleted the
last partition (about 120 GB), then asked the installer to use the
largest continuous free block

Yes John is right...I meant the Desktop CD and was not using the
alternate install option. As for attaching the syslog file...in the
meantime I've installed Dapper using the server CD (I could have used
the alternate option but somehow didn't find the option to that time :(
) so I haven't got the s
I never realized that the same problem was happening with the bottom
bar. I can move it right but can't go back left.

Please attach /var/log/syslog /var/log/installer/syslog and
/var/log/partman from the failed installation attempts. Since you are
attempting to install from the LiveCD - whenever the installation fails,
copy those files onto a USB drive or email them to yourself (if internet
works) and attach

Could we cache the iso locally if the user had sufficient space?
Perhaps a message box saying
"Burning a disc over a network can cause problems when the network cannot keep
up with your writer. Would you like to copy the disc image to your computer
before you burn it?"
