Thank you very much. the 'noapic' did the job. I have installed the OS
and am running it now. I have not full configured it but so far so good.
My laptop is the DV9000 but I think specifially the DV 9074cl

Same result. It does not boot. It freezes starting gnome.

Hi,
It goes through it's boot and the last thing is starting Gnome It
then is black and non-responsive. Out of the several times I tried it,
I got it to boot 1 time and actually install but I can't get back in.
My video card is: Nvidia’s GeForce Go 7600
