Guys,
There are no other options. If you want to cure the problem then you will
need to perform a flash upgrade of the BIOS on your MSI Wind. Believe me it
is worth the (minimal) hassle.

Read de old posts: not all the upgrade methods work. One of the method
seems to upgrade (new version is reported at boot) but the firmware is
not (fully?) upgraded. The other method works.
I cannot remember the details. You will have to read the old posts.

U're wrong. The easiest is to adjust the brightness of
gnome-power-preference to 0%.
By the way, bios update solves the problem.

The easiest way is to create a freedos USB disk with Unetbootin. Two clicks
and done.
It solved the flickering and the scalling problem of my N280 Wind U123.
Unfortunable, it is now only tree levels from 1Ghz to 1.67 and not four from
800 to 1.67Ghz.

I can confirm that flashing BIOS with dos method works. Flashing is gone.
Previous attempts to flash with bios recovery option failed. Probably
MSI has dual BIOS.

The easiest fix I found is to just remove power manager. sudo apt-get
remove-xfce4-power-manager is what I did. Worked fine. You won't have a
power manager, but do you really need it? I keep mine plugged in almost all
the time, so its not an issue for me.

If you don't need a power manager, simply removing gnome-power-manager is
one way to fix it. Another way for those that need a power manager is remove
gnome-power-manager and replace it with KDE's guidance-power-manager,
although suspend won't work from my experience.

Using the latest PPA works for me on an MSI with board_name "U90/U100".
There are a couple of things I've noticed:
* On logging into the session, a brightness change notification is
shown for about a second, which has no effect. This is just a
very minor cosmetic issue.

If you are the only user, is it too dificult to disable at system,

Isn't xfce4-power-manager better?

Found another way to stop flickering, much saner than right mouse hold

You need to put a high load on the CPU - so just switch the desktop
with Compiz - and flickering stops

Removing power management works. Its not really necessary for me to have but
is for some. For me its a workaround at least til its fixed or til the next
release.

Yeah that is true, but at least deleting powr management works. In another
release or 2 i may even consider switching to Debian or Linpus or an Ubuntu
based distro for netbooks perhaps.

No, this command won't survive a reboot, it just changes a parameter
in the running kernel.

That needs superuser privileges. Please try
echo 4 | sudo tee /proc/acpi/video/IGD/DOS
If that is too magical for you, you can also do
$ sudo -i
# echo 4 > /proc/
