Yes, it hangs without using sudo now, as it has permission to access
/dev/kvm.
I am in the cdrom group so /dev/sr0 (which /dev/scd0 points to) is accessible
as it's group r/w on the cdrom group.

Also, what are the permissions on /dev/scd0 (and anything it might be
a symlink pointing to?)
Do you have permissions on that device? Are you in the required
groups for it (cdrom, perhaps?)

Ok, I've done that.
