Just so happens that I trashed my system the other day and have a fresh
(formatted / partition - used same /home partition) install of 8.10.
I'm happy to report that this d&d problem is no longer an issue - at
least on my system.

Yes it was. Any other drives shown would also have been mounted.
However the issue is NOT confined to USB drives. Anything above the
divider seems to be fair game although I have not yet seen Trash grab
the drag. Thanks for looking at this problem. I do appreciate it.

openSUSE - found I didn't like it - reinstalled and set-up Ubuntu 8.04
