You are asking for 512M for your VM, but only 214 2M pages are free.
Please try bumping your number of hugepages, i.e.
echo 300 > /proc/sys/vm/nr_hugepages
And then try re-starting the VM. Does that succeed?

Could you please post the contents of /proc/meminfo and
/proc/sys/vm/nr_hugepages, as well as the result of "ls -l /hugepages"?
I was able just now to run kvm backed by hugepages, so at least it
doesn't seem to be altogether broken.
