@Daniel: shouldn't this then be changed to "Unity does not respect
cursor theme" and leave it assigned to Unity? Eventually, new bug
reports can be filled for the rest of the apps that do not respect it,
but Unity could have its part fixed separately.

Confirmed, but it's not just a problem with Unity. I find most apps
don't honour the cursor theme. In fact the only apps that do use the
configured cursor theme correctly are Thunderbird and Firefox.
