Same problem here when upgrading to XUbunutu Hardy. Found out the Hue
slider in Edit > Preferences > Display > Color balance is off for some
reason.

I don't know if this is relevant, but i'm having the same issue using
totem.
I'm using an Ati Radeon X1600.
I have the same effect when playing mpegs. I will check later to see if
it affects any other file types.
