It seems that this problem is not fixed. I just upgraded ubuntu to 12.04
on my dell latititude E6 and my touchpad does not work after logging in.
I do see the ALPS configuration tab in gpointing-device-settings, but
changing any settings does not help.

When I change the setting to twofinger-scroll I can scroll on the entire
touchpad using only one finger, but not two.
Horizontal scrolling also work, both bottom edge and two-fingered (using
one finger).
