Are you able to login via ssh from another machine? By running "top" you
should be able to see which process is running on the CPU.
Does this happen if you use the open-source drivers (ati instead of
fglrx)?

The fan does not start right after locking begins.
When I log in again, one of the processors has been running until that
moment at 100%
When I switch the monitor tab to see the tasks, compiz is at 84% but I
am not sure if that is the culprit.
I don't know if the problem depends on an applicatio
