Just to confirm - they are the two I have installed already? If so I
can confirm v3.2.0-22 present, v3.2.0-23 present, v3.2.0-21 absent.

Hmm, maybe it will be easier to bisect between Ubuntu kernels. Can you
test the following two kernels:
v3.2.0-21 to confirm the bug does not exist:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/3.2.0-21.34
v3.2.0-22 to confirm the bug does exist:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/3.2.0-22.
Tested v3.2.12, I get no boot - I can select it from Grub then the
screen goes blank and I get no further. System hangs, no graphical
output, no boot to desktop, no error messages/stacktrace, no obvious
activity on the HDD (can't see any lights activating).

Kernels > 3.2.0.21 fail
v3.2.14 - fails to boot, no log messages, just a blank screen from grub.
v3.2.13 - initiates boot (unlike the issue here), but then crashes with a
stacktrace before reaching desktop.

It would be good to know what upstream kernel version introduced this
regression. Can you test the 3.2.13 and 3.2.14 kernels, and report
back? I expect 3.2.14 to have the bug but not 3.2.13
v3.2.13:

v3.2.14:

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.
However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during
any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all.
Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request
further testing. This is s
