[Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 14] SD card reader non-functional
I made it work on Lenovo E530, and Linux Mint 13.
You need to download and compile drivers from Realtek.
Realtek RTS5229_Linux_Driver_v1.07..
Follow the Readme,txt
>make
>sudo make install
>sudo depmod
Reboot!

Same problem here with a Lenovo E530 running Linux mint 13.
Nothing seems to happen when I insert my SD-card (have only tried one card -
will see if I can try another one)

@Daniel
Are you sure you don't want to try changing the BIOS settings back and
seeing if the issue might still be there? We can't certify with modified

This card reader started working again of its own accord. I tested with
3.2.0-23.36 kernel from Precise, as well as 3.4.0 from Quantal and an
upstream 3.5-rc1 kernel. All three work fine, with three different SD
cards (two SDHC and one plain SD). I was unable to reproduce the bug as
originally repo
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernels, as
well as the latest Quantal kernel?
The latest upstream kernel can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.4-quantal/
The latest Quantal kernel can be downloaded from(Arch specific links are under

Hi Joseph,
Yes, we covered that possibility: I try with 3 cards, all of which work
well in other systems:
- 1-GB Kingston SD
- 4-GB Kingston SDHC
- 4-GB Mushkin SDHC
the only ones that failed were the Edge 14 and the Thinkpad T420.

Are you using the same SD card that you used in bug 978929 ? If so, do
you have another SD card you could try, just to rule it out as being
bad?
