This is neither a Wishlist or a feature request since it worked on 11.10 using the same hardware on different PCs. Like you just said it is a regression. I have also marked this bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/992937 as duplicate of this one that explains the behavior. --
