Unity launc
'unity --reset' did make settings stick on Macbook. I do not have Dell
to test right now but I do expect it to work there as well.

That's weird. In my case the settings are always saved no matter
whatever I do.
Can you post your ~/.xsession-errors file right after the change? Also,
can you try this out after running unity --reset, and if you still get
the bug, try it in a new user account?
