Given the two quite different IDE controller setups on the two machines,
I suspect that this may be marginal media. Can you try burning a new CD
at a lower speed setting?

Judging from the fact that mount returns EINVAL, this is a kernel bug.
Could you run 'lspci -v' and 'lspci -n' and post the segments
corresponding to the controller driving your CD drive? You should be
able to match them up by number.

Today I tested the same boot media at the PC of my brother. Same problem
with ASUS AV8 Mainboard (Chipset: VIA K8T800 Pro + VIA VT8237)... later
I'll test it with an othter testsystem
