A workaround is to delete the zeitgeist database in folder
~/.local/share/zeitgeist/

Same situation here. dash does not show any applications, only some
music files from my music folder. Reinstalling unity-place-applications,
unity-place-files and zeitgeist does not help.
btw: booting from live-cd is ok.

thanks for the bug report. Can you please login to a guest session and
see if the same issue appears there as well. Also if possible please try
to boot the latest LiveCD of Ubuntu 12.04 and check if the issue happens
there.
