In my case, I have a MBP 8.1 (early 2011). The physical buttons are
absent and I never got along well with tap-to-click.
Should we file a new bug on this?

With clickpad support it works fine for me (on Lenovo U300s with
Synaptics trackpad). Using the "buttons" gives left-click, and I can
hold it and drag on the trackpad to select or move windows. Tapping with
two buttons is my right-click, so that works at the same time for me.

@Chase - any chance this may get fixed (and hence reenabled) for
clickpads which don't have a physical right button (such as all the ones
on Apple laptops?) As it is a shame to be so close to having good
support for such devices now only to have it removed. I agree that

I have decided to disable clickpad support for trackpads that do not
have a physical right button. This will re-enable click action support
for all devices that had click actions enabled by default previously.
Click actions is the X synaptics term for "two-finger-right-click".
