Since there are lots of bugs already about the nvidia binary drivers
defaulting to a low resolution when HorizSync/VertRefresh are not
present in xorg.conf (e.g. bug #91292 ) I shall speculatively file this
against the open source nv driver since that usually works correctly for
every one else.

almost all the resolution problems seem to occur when using the binary only
drivers. Can you include a /var/log/Xorg.0.log from an open source nv driver
