After a recent update to the latest network-manager-pptp-gnome package the same
bug applies.
I was already updated to precise, the problems seems to have been caused by a
recent change on the package.

To be official (rather than via IRC) I updated the failing system to the
latest Precise updates and this issue has been resolved. I am now again
able to connect to VPNs as I did before and they are properly displayed
in the network menu.

Jeff, still noticing the same behavior? The menu has changed a bit a few
times; so it would be best if you could confirm this again.
Also, please check if the VPN connections are configured as "Available
to all users". Toggling this setting (if it's not enabled) might have
them displayed again in
