I don't use a dual monitor either, but I do have Composite disabled. If
I enable Composite the problem doesn't happen.

I also get a very similiar(related?) segfault when hovering over the sound icon
in unity 2d:

Though I'm not running multiple monitors. Instead I've disabled compositing in

Also, as a side affect, i can no longer use the 'hot' corners when
moving windows.

This is happening to me too, running dual monitors on 11.10 oneiric
amd64, have amdcccle enabled and am using Xinerama. I also have my
screens rotated vertically. It's happening in both Unity 2d and Unity
sessions.

It's happens with amd64 too.
I tried to downgrade libgtk-3-bin to 3.2.0-0ubuntu2 but the problem
still exists.

I should have added that this started immediately after
libgtk-3-bin:i386 (3.2.0-0ubuntu3, 3.2.0-0ubuntu4) was updated when I
installed it on Start-Date: 2012-01-24 15:06:16, so there is clearly a
change in this package that is triggering the fault.
