Thanks for getting back to me.
I had same issues with HBAC when that version was active in Fedora. Only
way around it is to disable all HBAC rules except the allow_all rule.
That renders SSSD unusable.
Will the updated 1.5.15 package be available in Oneiric at some point?

This is fixed in the current development release, which (still) has
1.5.15. Leaving open for oneiric, though you could just build the
package from precise and use that.

I think I should follow up because I was the one answering the original
question on the upstream maling list..
Did you have a chance to check if the actual error you were getting is
related to any of the HBAC fixes I referenced?
I think it would still be prudent if Ubuntu backported the fixe
