Yes it is still an issue - the related bug (can't detect the monitor
resolution correctly and ignores the EDID False directives) was fixed
but this incredibly annoying bug remains.
It have tried upstream testing with a liveCD but this doesn't use the
nvidia driver so the problem cannot be tested p

bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with

Regardless of the external monitor resolution (at present only 640x480
is possible) whenever a movie player starts (vlc / mplayer / kmplayer /
