*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 24927 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/24927
Could you please recheck it with Gutsy RC or newer? It is shipped with
the new Intel driver which should fix this issue. 915resolution is then
not needed anymore.
** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-i810 (Ubuntu)
Works, yaay!!!
got a clean install done from feisty disk and
sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel;
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart (this hangs sometimes depending on h/w),
worked fine on my dell 700m, failed on an asus.

855GM and Intel 915 widescreen does not work
Does the xserver-xorg-video-intel driver work for you (remove
915resolution first). This driver is the new one from Intel and should
perform better autodetection and handle monitor hotplugging much better.
If it does work, I think we can say we've reached the new upstream
version :).

855GM and
I use 700m, and by installing the 915resolution package on Feisty, it
detected the correct resolution and updated the xorg.conf file
automagically... No need to do it manually...
