Thanks for reporting this.
Using 12.04, I tried to repro this. I used some made-up passwords like
ubuntu@ and ubuntu@@@ and ubuntu@1 and I cannot reproduce it on a real
system or inside a VM. Can you try again using 12.04? This is the
version of the greeter I have:
unity-greeter

In my case there is no such bug in lightdm, only after i log in in the
system. after restarting X(alt+sysrq+k) everything works fine. System-
ubuntu 12.04, bug "works" under KDE and Unity for sure.
