I also can confirm that the keyboard backlight turns absolutely off in
Ubuntu 12.04 if very bright light hits the ambient light sensor
directly.
Tomasz Chmielewski (mangoo-wpkg) found out that the keyboard brightness
can customized manually by change the value (1 - 8) in
/sys/devices/platform/sam
Correct, sensibility it's the main problem, with strong light the
keyboard backlight turns off

Ambient Light Sensor
I've the 700Z5A and till today I thought my ambient light sensor wasn't
working with ubuntu (kubuntu 11.10 64 bit). I figured out that it works:
when the sensor is exposed to the rays of the sun (filtered by a
curtain) the backlit keyboard turns its lights off, but nothing happens
to the monitor b
I don't know if it could help, but I just read a comment, that the
ambient light sensor is working on 700Z5A (

Many of the used components seems to be equal to the 700Z3A.

I just tested a current kernel. The ambient light sensor still doesn't
work (but i have no wifi with this kernel).
