The bug was probably related to an operating system or desktop component,
rather than a problem with Inkscape itself, so I'm closing it Invalid for the
project.

Just wanted to add that I am using Xubuntu as my desktop. Inkscape has
had issues with some of the XFCE components, so it's possible it is
either a GTK issue or an XFCE issue.
