I ran into this when I want trying to upgrade from 12.10 to 13.04 and I
needed to use a socks-proxy during that upgrade. It did work for apt-get
but not for the update-manager.

- I'm trying to upgrade from natty to oneiric using do-release-upgrade. The
problem is that I have internet only through socks using a local shh tunnel
connection created by using: ssh -g -D user@ip. The tunnel works great
with firefox and using tsocks or proxychain
