i cannot reproduce this in jaunty:
sudo touch /etc/test.conf
then try renaming it (rename key is F6, not F4) and I get the normal
(permission denied) error
no crash
can you please elaborate on the issue, or confirm if this is resolved
for you?

No I still experience this: a segfault everytime I press the function
key to rename.
I'm ready to test patches, anything, to fix this.
