This problem is known solved in Oneiric (11.10). Here we do not turn
PostScript which comes from Adobe Reader to PDF but simply process it as
PostScript.

problem.
The PDF you mentioned is "encrypted", which means that the author of the
file does not want anyone to make changes and save it under a different
filename.

I note from the cups log that no pages were found. I tried to find a
log before I posted but it is only now that apport has found it that I
can read it.
The file that had 'no pages' was over 900kb long.
If the problem isn't CUPS, then where is it?
