Yeah, nothing happens. to be precise, when I go to edit -> insert
date and time it inserts 2 spaces

I am having the same issue.
Found a workaround: changing the "Insert date/time" plugin preference to
something else, and revert back, then insert date/time works as
expected, even with a newly started gedit.
To change the plugin preference:
Menu Edit -> Preference -> plugins tab -> select insert
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.
