Upstream will not fix this, since official GUI is based on Qt, and fixes
this issue.

It doesn't say on their bug report, perhaps because to do so would mess
up the size on Windows (would make it too big) - see the attachments on
the upstream bug report. Just thinking about it, perhaps this is a
wxwidgets interface problem?

Yes, is still present in Gnome in Hardy as well.
In my opinion, this is a major bug as showing the length of the item it
is playing is a key feature for a media player!
