I am on today's live CD . The driver used by the cd is VESA. But if I
hadn't look at xorg.conf I wouldn't have been able to tell . That vesa's
performance is far better than windows XP generic driver.
I haven't install from that Live CD for the moment. I think I will .

Oki, I'll try reinstall with today's live cd .
Here is the command you asked me to do :
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4125298473028557248
shouldn't it automatically configure the driver ? cause it asked me to
choose it.

Oh, and what happens when you run 'sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-

This bug is still on, and it makes Herd 5 installation very annoying
since my driver is dropped down to vesa. It would be difficult for a
newbie to understand what is happening.

OMG ! I tried to get you the log file. So I booted on Feisty and , guess
what, it ran. I had install proprietary drivers so I removed them and
restarted. And It still ran and I even git Direct Rendering Enabled. I
am happy but a little doubtful about myself . :-p

Thank you for your bug. Could you attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log when

There has been an update rigth now, (xorg 7.2 I think ) and it's far
worst than that. I can even put driver ati without running in an out of
range error ( That's on Feisty ) .
That's very disappointing
