add the following line in the file /etc/apt/sources.list
>deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian sid main
then run the command "sudo apt-get install swift",
the latest version swift will be installed.

I'm getting this same "swift-container-sync does not exist" error.
I tried to apt-get this newer version of swift and am getting the following
error:
# apt-get install swift=1.4.4~2008.1612-0ubuntu1
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Don
