Stefan: I have a T410 and the exact same problem (ButtonPress and
ButtonRelease fired "at the same time" for short presses and simply
swallowed on long press). I've been on 10.04 for a long time and don't
know when this misbehaviour was introduced.

Yes, I tried it with unity 2d, gnome shell and pure metacity, which all
show the same behaviour as described above. My guess is a problem with
the trackpoint driver or configuration of it as xev should behave the
same for either way of invoking a button 2 click.

did you get the chance to test it in another session under unity-2d or
gnome-shell etc? did it happen there as well?

Aha, interesting. My thinkpad r61 has this weird two kind of mice built
in, a touchpad with two buttons and a separate trackpoint with separate
three buttons. When using the middle button of those three, I get the
behaviour I described above. When using the middle bmouse button
emulation by pressin
seems to work fine for me on a Clean Oneiric install. Can you run 'unity
--reset' in a terminal and see if that resolves the issue. This is not a
bug in unity though.
