The camera is detected but it will not start. It usually starts when there
is a change to the kernel...but only runs the one time. The camera led is
not changing. No content is visible. The device is available

Please help to narrow down the problem.
what do you mean with does not work? Is the camera detected at all, can
it be started? Is the camera led changing? Is any camera content visible
in cheese?
Is the device available, e.g. ls -l /dev/video* shows something?
What is the output of v4l-i
