I tested both v2.6.39-rc4-natty and v3.1-rc9-oneiric but the bug
persists. I verified with uname -a that I was running that kernels.
Anyone have any idea of something more I can test? and why this may be
happening (just when using OpenSource ATI video driver)?

Actually I think it would be preferable to try the most recent build
available, which is currently
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.1-rc9-oneiric/
The -series just specifies the configuration used for the build, and
there's nothing wrong with using an oneiric kernel configuratio
It would be great if you could try:

Let me say that I tested again to verify that this bug just happens when
I am using the OpenSource ATI video drivers. When I am using proprietary
drivers it just works as expected.
I don't use proprietary drivers because I can't hibernate using them.
