Scratch that. Sounds work OK for a bit, based on using aplay on an mp3 (doesn't
sound good but makes noise :-) ) and YouTube in FireFox.
Then it stopped. 'alsa force-reload' brings it back without rebooting.

Installed 3.1.0-0301rc9-generic and removed the line from the modprobe
config (it only worked after 'alsa force-reload' and killing and
restarting the pulseaudio process).
Seems fixed now.

I've tried several settings for my chip from

but to no effect.
options snd-hda-intel model=dell-3stack
seems to work but I need to test more.
