Thanks for the help! I did use the same cable for all my testing.
I've also finally made the time to test the kernels up to v3.1-rc9-oneiric.
This bug seems to persist upstream. Here is the relevant info from my dmesg on
v3.1-rc9:

Sometimes the BadCRC error can indicate a faulty cable. Are you using
the same cable for all your tests.
If so, would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel?
It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer
