By the way, what I say in comment #3 is no longer true. My webcam does
not work with xawtv either, actually it is worse, the image always
starts frozen and very dark.

I'm still having this issue with 12.04 Beta 2 fully updated. My apport
information is in Bug #918176, duplicated to this one.
I tried a couple of upstream kernels but I'm having a lot of issues with
my NVIDIA card so I couldn't fully try. The 3.3. and 3.4 series are not

I have also noticed that the image from my webcam comes out flipped
horizontally.
I found a partial workaround for my model. Installing v4l2ucp gives a
configuration tool for brightness and other stuff. Increasing the
brightness parameter to maximum makes that the video output does not
freeze. It
Just noticed that with "xawtv" my webcam works perfectly, but not with
cheese, skype or google+, with all these other applications I get the
symptom reported in this bug.
