I also notice that in order to have a phone conversation via Skype for
people to understand me I *have* to have the Sound Setting > Input tab
open... Weird.

Indeed, the issue persists. Callers are unable to understand me and hear
themselves quite profoundly while prior to this bug I was able to use my
laptop with Skype just fine, without having to resort to a headset and
tweaked input settings and without people hearing themselves on the
other end.

All. The update didn't seem to fix the problem. The good news is I have found a
work around for my garbled input (at least for my system)
Go into Skype 'Options' < 'Sound Devices' and deselect 'Allow Skype to
automatically adjust my mixer levels'.

After recent update mic stop working correctly in Skype. On a test call
its working but the sound stutters badly making it unusable.

I upgrade ubuntu beta2 today on my amd64 version and I have the same problem
with skype. I don't have sound for the ringtone.

I suggest you check your skype settings. So far as I know, skype allows
you to choose what audio device you want to hear your incoming call
sound from. It seems that it is not set to an output you are using, or
its not set at all.
