Right, launcher support is still there, it's just that the basic ui to
create those is coming from gnome-panel which is deprecated but it
should be easy enough to install a software to fit that purpose from
universe

But I can copy existing launchers from other Ubuntu partitions and they work,
so clearly support for the launcher itself has not been dropped. It's just the
GUI tool for creating the launcher that has been lost. But I guess if this is
the way forward then we can only hope there is a developer ou
the feature has been dropped by GNOME as well, not by Unity only

Why is Unity removing all the good features? I use Ubuntu in work and
the Create Launcher is ideal to create links to remote network places.
It is a basic feature that even windows has.
Ubuntu has become a distro for complete beginners who need to be told
what to do.
