Also, I've tested Linux 3.1, and some newer branches. They don't fix
the regression.
For simply reverting the small , "guilty" commit ,'git revert
d05c65fff' succeeds on the command line, but does not seem to revert
cleanly. Those kernels have failed to build. I haven't had time to
look that ov
Mythbuntu users are finding the regression, here:

so I added that project to the report.
It seems heavy-handed, but might be accurate, to add all the Ubuntu
11.10 derivatives as affected, in this report. I won't get into that
for the moment.

Ok, I've probably isolated the commit.
I found the new location of the "tip" tree, then read up on git, and set
to work. "git bisect" helped me find the commit where things stop
working:
